Rookie Cyrus Allen Poised for Bigger Role in Chiefs’ Offense

The Kansas City Chiefs are adjusting their passing game due to injuries to key wide receivers. Coach Andy Reid indicated that rookie Cyrus Allen is expected to take on an expanded role in the offense. This comes after Tyquan Thornton suffered a dislocated ankle, sidelining him for most of the season, while Rashee Rice’s status remains uncertain due to a hamstring injury.

During a media session, Reid expressed confidence in Allen’s abilities, stating, “I think he would probably work into the mix more. He’s a good football player. Even though he’s young, he’s got good ability.” Selected in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Allen had an impressive collegiate career at Cincinnati, recording 51 receptions for 674 yards and 13 touchdowns during his senior season.

Despite high expectations during training camp and preseason, Allen has seen limited action this season with just 10 offensive snaps and one target. With Thornton out and Rice’s availability in question, Reid may look to utilize Allen more effectively alongside Xavier Worthy, who is poised to fill Thornton’s deep-threat role.

The Bigger Question

Given the injuries to Tyquan Thornton and the uncertainty surrounding Rashee Rice, how significant do you believe Cyrus Allen’s contribution will be to the Chiefs’ offense moving forward?
