Patrick Mahomes walked away from the Kansas City Chiefs’ 24-10 win against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 with a blend of satisfaction and constructive criticism. Sure, a win is a win, but Mahomes knows that there’s much more to achieve.
Throughout the game, mistakes were evident on both sides of the ball, making it a tougher contest than the scoreline suggests. Mahomes finished the day completing 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards, tossing two touchdowns and one interception. But he didn’t shy away from acknowledging the need for improvement. “We have a lot of stuff to clean up,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of execution. It’s a testament to the team’s spirit that they managed to finish strong, especially after some rocky moments.
Building chemistry among the younger players has become a focal point for Mahomes. Despite managing an average of 6.8 yards per play, the team struggled on third downs (3-for-7) and in the red zone (3-for-5), leaving plenty of room for development. His emotional reaction following tight end Travis Kelce’s touchdown was a clear signal of his frustration with not reaching their full potential. Yet, he remains hopeful about the team’s capacity to improve as the season progresses.
