Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed ongoing issues within the team following their victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite the win, observers noted that the Chiefs squandered scoring opportunities due to several mistakes throughout the game.
Kicker Harrison Butker’s struggles continued as he missed a 52-yard field goal and an extra point attempt, raising concerns about his consistency. Additionally, kick returner Nikko Remigio lost a fumble while fielding a punt in the third quarter. Reid expressed confidence in both players despite their errors, stating that Remigio’s fumble was out of character for him and reaffirming Butker’s track record of reliability. “He’s as consistent as anybody,” Reid remarked about Butker, emphasizing that these misses are not typical for him.
The Chiefs’ special teams unit has been a long-standing area of concern, often ranking high in penalties that compromise field position for both their offense and opposing teams. While Butker remains secure in his role for now, his recent performance may prompt the Chiefs to reevaluate their options if inconsistencies persist into the offseason.
The Bigger Question
Given Andy Reid's confidence in Harrison Butker despite his recent missed kicks, do you believe the Chiefs should continue to rely on him as their kicker moving forward, or is it time to consider alternatives?
I think Butker needs to get it together real fast. Consistency is key for a kicker and letting those opportunities slip away can cost us big down the road. Time to step it up, Harrison.
