Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has issued a cautionary note to rookie offensive tackle Kahlil Benson, despite his promising start this season. With starter Josh Simmons sidelined due to a back injury sustained during training camp, Reid’s decision to place Benson in the starting role has raised eyebrows, but the rookie has performed admirably through the first two weeks.
During a media session on Wednesday, Reid acknowledged Benson’s solid contributions thus far but emphasized that challenges will increase as opposing teams analyze his gameplay more closely. “He’s done a nice job,” Reid stated. “We’re early in it… Every week’s a new week, and the more people are able to study him, then you’re going to get different looks.” This warning that as defenses adapt, Benson will need to adjust accordingly.
Benson has already faced formidable opponents like Nik Bonitto and DeForest Buckner and managed to hold his own against their pass-rushing prowess. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also praised Benson’s rapid development, noting that his growing confidence is crucial for both his performance and the overall effectiveness of the offense.
