KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Josh Simmons is back at full speed and ready to take on a pivotal role for the Kansas City Chiefs this season. Drafted in the first round last year, Simmons quickly secured the starting left tackle position, protecting Patrick Mahomes’ blind side throughout training camp. However, his promising rookie season was interrupted by personal issues and a wrist injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the year.
Now fully healed and participating in training camp at Missouri Western State University, Simmons is focused on building upon his previous experience. With Mahomes recovering from knee surgery, Simmons’ performance becomes even more critical as he aims to provide essential protection for the franchise quarterback. “I’m just trying to add off of last year,” Simmons stated after a recent practice, emphasizing his commitment to improving his game.
The Chiefs are also looking to enhance their running game this season with the addition of Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III. Last year’s rushing performance ranked among the league’s lowest, putting additional pressure on Mahomes and a young receiving corps. As Kansas City shifts its offensive strategy, Simmons will play a crucial role in both pass protection and run blocking as they aim to revitalize their attack.
