HAve you seen it yet? Did you like it?

I loved it overall, disapointed in the ending though.

Previews look good. I actually just saw the original with John Wayne for the very first time a couple of days ago so I would have some frame of reference for when I watch the remake.

JOHN WAYNE is Rooster Cogburn, accept no substitutes. there are lots of bad movies made that can be remade better, why take a good movie and try and remake it….it almost never is better than the original.

Agreed. I thought the acting was good across the board. But the movie never figured out exactly what it was trying to be and SPOILER the twenty minutes after the snakebite was just padding the running time. Actually, a lot of the movie felt like padding (meeting the crazy doctor, Cogburn v. LaBouf shooting match, Cogburn’s decision to turn around).

Probably the worst Coen Brothers’ movie.

I agree the cast in the orginal was just better I liked the orginal Maddie and the way she kept throwing J Nobel Daggett’s name around and the way she said it. I watched the remake last weekend and it was good but Jeff is no John and when they called them an “old, one eye, fat man” it just did not fit Jeff like it did John and when he said “fill your hands you sucker” Jeff just did not have the same effect as when John said it. There were just to many things that John said better that I missed in the remake.

    John Wayne
Glen Campbell – I did not like Matt’s Texas Ranger at all.
    Kim Darby
    Jeremy Slate
    Robert Duvall
    Dennis Hopper

I saw the original with John Wayne also…think I was in junior high school back then. I didn’t realize there was a re-make out until reading this discussion. I think Jeff Bridges is an excellent actor, but can’t imagine any one but John Wayne filling the role of Rooster. No one can fill the boots of John Wayne, ever…nor can any one fill Clint Eastwoods roles in his early Westerns, as well as Dirty Harry roles. :)

I thought it stacked up close to the original. It was badass I think.

the original came out in 69. I might see if this one can hold a candle
