This isn’t a rant of any kind, just a thought. I posted this at kcchiefs.com under the guise of Alfie Neumann, because a guy asked what the Chiefs record was wearing the RED ON RED uniforms. Here was my response:

To the best of my knowledge, they’ve only lost once.

One point I’d like to make, and one can take it for whatever it is worth to them. It regards these first round playoff losses that have occurred at KC far too often (every one of them on the grass surface, the only two opening playoff victories in KC were on the artificial surface at Arrowhead in 1991 and 1993).

If the Chiefs get an opening playoff game at home this season (and it is likely that they will), what is the one thing that they can do differently that hasn’t been done in any of the previous opening playoff games that have been played at KC?

That’s right, you guessed it — WEAR THE RED ON RED UNIFORMS !! I know that may seem silly to suggest such, but silly or not, it leads to the ultimate question — what do they have to lose?

With that said, it is my hope that the fans in KC will make an outcry for the Chiefs to wear RED ON RED, if the Chiefs get an opening playoff game at home in KC. I will ask once again — what do they have to lose?

What say you? Let me know what you think.

Guess if the players were given the option, and that’s what they wanted to wear, why not ?

Remember hating the all white uniforms we used to wear on away games. Usually because we lost a lot of road games those years.

It’s not like wearing RED ON RED is something that is illegitimate (such as putting grease on the jerseys — yeah, you know what I’m talking about). It’s perfectly LEGIT. My point is, it is time to try something different regarding one of these opening playoff games at KC. Why not wear RED ON RED?

Well they have absolutely nothing to lose, nor do I believe that their success or failure really has anything at all to do with the color combination of their uniforms but rather the teams they play and how they, the Chiefs, perform. Just my two cents buddy; I’m not really a superstitious kind of guy.

Not so much a superstition, but more of a TREND is what’s happened here, Chiefster. Hence my suggestion to do something different regarding this trend.

There was a Chiefs player who noticed a trend going into the last AFL Championship game played Jan. 4, 1970. That would be this guy here, DE Jerry Mays seen in that very game.

Mays went on record saying “I have a lot of friends and relatives on the West Coast and when we beat SD in ’68 (they had lost TWICE to Oakland and to the Rams in pre-season in ’68), I hadn’t seen any of my friends or relatives. In ’69 on our trips to the West Coast to play the Rams, Chargers, and Raiders, the only time I saw my friends or relatives was before the 10-6 loss to Oakland, so going into this game against the Raiders, I was determined that I wasn’t going to see any of my friends or relatives or go out to eat in SF”.

The Chiefs won the game 17-7.

As long as we’re talking color.. Looking forward to the blue and orange that’s going to get smeared into the green field at arrowhead Sunday afternoon.

I may be wrong here but I think the NFL as one of the STUPID rules they have limit the number of times you can wear special uniforms. Other leagues do I know I belive the NFL does to. I may be wrong on that

I don’t think RED ON RED would fall under “special uniforms”. Throwback uniforms, maybe.
