Did anyone say the Steelers “back into the playoffs” the year that they won the Super Bowl, because they had a similar situation and we went 10-6 and did not make the playoffs. How come no on eever says we should have been in that spot, but when we do something good it was a fluke. If last seasons week 16 schedule was week 1, and everything worked out the way it did, then we would not be having this conversation. This is the type of underlying negativity about our team that I am constantly talking about. We don’t make the playoffs, everyone bitches….we make the playoffs….everyone bitches. I hope we score enough points in our Super Bowl win to keep everyone happy. As far as being contenders…when this year is over we will be contenders….AGAIN.Ok I will be the first to say it (Not likely but I will) I think that 10-6 season we should have been in the playoffs. I wouldn’t say that last year we backed in, if we were there by rules (Which we were) then we made the playoffs, did it take a little luck, absolutely but did we back in, Nope we did what we had to do to get in.
Now on last years playoffs again, did we deserve to be there, this is an entirely different question, and I feel we proved against Indy that last year we did not deserve to be there. I think the coach did not effectively get his team up to the task, that being said we did lose to the eventual Super Bowl champs.

When we’re in, I’m happy. However, “backing in” to me is when you don’t keep control of your own destiny! Last year, we had EVERY oppurtunity to control our own destiny and failed to do so. Therefore, we needed to depend on someone else losing to help us “back in” to the playoffs. That is how I define the matter.

I just don’t get how one time we “back in” and the season before the Steelers were a team of destiny. They won when it counted and any other football cliche you would like to use. Do you think that if Jacksonville, Denver, Tennesee or (I forget the other team that could have made it) would be teams that “backed in” if one of them had made it. I doubt it. I guess sometimes the lack of respect for the Chiefs dosen’t come from just the Talking Heads.

Your right about the lack of respect. It also comes from people who care about the team and get pissed when they only win 4 games and field an absolutely pathetic team each and every week! When they can’t hire the right management to hire the right people to get the job done! When they keep a GM that has been around for 19 years and has a few playoff 1st round losses to show for it!! On and On an On….remember, you were telling me how ridiculous I was for thinking the way I was before the season started?

MemberWe backed in imo. We needed to win and have three other teams to lose, when you need to have all of that to happen, you don’t deserve to make the play offs, we just got lucky. 2005, although a better year, I also would see as backing in. We had the opportunity to seal up a play off spot against the Cowboys or Giants, or whoever, and we couldn’t beat them.
When it comes time for the Chiefs to control their destiny, they always blow it, they always need help. That’s why everyone thinks the Chiefs suck.12/05/2007 at 8:22 pm #807187Canada
MemberAs per the two previous posts…if week 16 had been week 1 and all we had to do was win our last game of the season to get in….would it still be backing in?? Exact same schedule just put week 16 as week 1 and we are the team that has the win and in mentality. I just think it is sad that people bitch and complain when we are 4-8 (not that I blame them) and not in playoff contention, then bitch and complain when we make the playoffs cause the record or situation in which they did it was not right. If I could never see the good in the Chiefs then I would question myself as to why I am a fan. Yes, I would love to see a SuperBowl, YES it would be great to be 14-2 and march through the playoffs. Yes, it would be fun to watch the Chiefs kick ass EVERY Sunday. But it is days like today that I will remember vividly when we hoist the Lombardi trophy once again…and for some people I think it will feel a little better than for others.

I know you say you don’t care what other people think but you are proving right here to everyone that you do! We are fans but the truth is the truth!

You think it’s sad when people bitch but you can’t blame them??? A bit contradictory don’t ya think?
I don’t think you will remember anything about this day by the time we win a Super Bowl!

MemberFor me, as a long time Chiefs fan living in Philadelphia, I don’t care what Eagle fans think about the Chiefs because Eagles fans say the Chiefs suck regardless of their record. When the Chiefs were 9-0 in 2003 Eagle fans would still tell me, “They suck”. The Eagles are like a religion to the fans here, so who cares what these non objective, obnoxious people say about my Chiefs? They put down every team that’s not Philly so it’s nothing personal anyway.
By the way, the next time an Eagle fan tells me the Chiefs suck I’m gonna say, “Yeah, they suck the life out of the Eagles when they play them! They show Philadelphia what a real football team is!”

MemberI really don’t think the Steelers had to have Cincinnati lose two consecutive games one of which to Denver, then have Denver lose the following week playing the lowly 49ers at home in late December. I just don’t see the comparison. We were all but eliminated and SEVEN things had to happen over three weeks, how is that anything but backing in!!!!!

MemberSome people will say we didn’t because we won, but it is in all honesty. Oh, and the 49ers weren’t great, but they did go 7-9 last year! Better than the Chiefs will probably be this year.

Why is that contradictory?? I learned a loooooong time ago that most people in the world are whiners. Nothing is ever good enough….i think that is sad….but I understand why they do it. They are Whiners!! :bananen_smilies046: And I may not remember this particular day, but I will remember this season.
