So, to be clear. We upgraded those positions and didn’t have to pay them more money? What terrible management!!

LOL I was being sarcastic with my post.

I am not one to judge a team before they play on the field. :chiefs:

No I don’t agree with you.
    Why?
Because since Pioli has been here this team has done NOTHING but improve. This team went from 2-14 to a playoff team in 2 years. Weather they are spending money or not is not something I really care about it’s what the win loss record is and so far Pioli has done nothing but improve it. Maybe it was the GM before that wasn’t doing the job and not Clark Hunt holding back in the checkbook.

And who judges who is superior talent? Maybe the management feels that they have got that superior talent to what they had before. Just because it might not be who you want doesn’t mean it’s not a guy who’s going to improve this team. In the last two years this team has done NOTHING but get better doing what they are doing this offseason. Why not give this team a chance before you complain.

My whole argument isn’t that money can’t improve a team. It’s that it’s not the ONLY way to improve a team. And before you talk about how an owner being cheap is hurting the team lets see them take ONE snap on the football field in an NFL game to see what the guys that they have brought in can do. What’s so wrong with that?

When a team is 2-14 how can you not improve? It doesn’t take anyone great to improve on that record. Like chief 31 said if the opportunity is there to maybe contend for a super bowl why not go for it now? Why wait another year or two? What if Cassell or Charles has a serious injury and aren’t the same player again? We have our core group of players to build around it has been long overdue to start filling in the pieces with great talent around them. I still think we are going to regress this year and we will have to wait and see on that one but I don’t see where we have done much to improve this season from last year.

Are you kidding me? Did you not see the previous three seasons? We went 4-12, 2-14, back to 4-12. We did not have a core of guys to build around. New management came in (late) and spent the first season seeing what kind of talent there was on the team, then cleaning house. Now there is improvement (which to you seems only to be in numbers) from 2-14 to 4-12, but is that really improving? When Pioli and Haley truly had a full offseason to start implementing what they want to do, we went to 10-6 and won the AFC West. Not just better W/L Record but we had the #1 Rushing offense in the league (which has now improved with the addition of Le’Ron McClain) Cassel threw 27 TDs and 7INTS a vast improvement from his 16/16 the year before. Not to mention the huge upgrade over the back up QB with Stanzi and Palko competing for the #2 (and possibly the number one in the near future) Bowe had 14 TDs leading the league last season and we have upgraded by adding Breaston and Baldwin.

Defensively Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith were replaced by Kelly Gregg…a big upgrade at NT. Perhaps the reason we did not sign the big name FA Aubrayo Franklin (admittedly, i really wanted him too) but perhaps the reason we did not sign him is because Pioli and Haley see the talent that they got in Powe who may very well be ready to take over the leadership of our Dline. The linebackers led by DJ have some depth and competition now with Brandon Silar getting signed. Add in Houston when and if he signs and we have a significant pass rush off the edges with him and Hali. Add in Berry, Lewis Flowers and Carr roaming the secondary and we will have a deadly defense.

Im sorry that you don’t see the improvement on this team but it is quite apparent to me that we are building a long term winner. I dont want us to be a team that spends all their money in one shot trying to win a SB only to go back to being a sub par team because you blew your wad on a bunch of high priced FAs and they didnt pan out. Complain all you want about the 5 year plan. Fact is, most of that has been Carl Peterson who is no longer the Chiefs GM. Pioli is the boss and he is building a winner the same way he helped do it in New England and we all know how that worked out. :chiefs:

I think this team can get to that level, and more important, maintain that level for a few years. Some big names can block our young guys. I prefer a young team than an all-star ready to go that will disappear next season.

Your right it’s hard not to improve. But it’s also hard to deney the improvement when you go from 2-14 to AFC West champs in 2 seasons. Keep talking about the easy schedule all you want but the WHOLE AFC West had that easy schedule. And Again if you look how last year played out one of the teams we got for being a last place team the year before turned out to be better then a team the chargers faced. The browns were better then the bengals last year. So I can arguee they didn’t have a easier schedule then the Chargers at the end of the day and they still beat the Chargers in the final standings.

The fact is we have seen them bring guys in this offseason. It may not have been who you wanted but how do you know that the guys we have seen signed won’t help this team. I can’t say say they will make us a super bowl contender but you can’t say that they won’t. Why? Because we have yet to see THIS TEAM as it’s made up THIS year play ONE SNAP in a game. Just because it’s not high price talent doesn’t make it a bad move to bring a guy in. Ask redskins fans.

Fair enough we will just see how the season plays out, but if we fall back to 6-10 or 7-9 I think my assements are right. If we win the AFC west again then you will most certainly be correct.

Gregg isn’t that much of an improvement over what we had and still don’t have the depth there that we did last year. We did improve at WR no doubt but then took a bit hit losing Waters.

No, I would guess you couldn’t comment on it because you didn’t want to read through it all. Made perfect sense.

So if we go 10-6 and make the playoffs as a wild card, that’s not continuing to improve? We ONLY improve if we win the West again? If we make the playoffs even as a wildcard, I’m good. I want to see us win a playoff game again.

We cut Waters, who was no doubt a leader and a skilled OG, but we currently have 13 guys on the roster as O-line. We’ll only see as the season gets going whether cutting Waters was a “big hit”.

As far as Gregg, we now have 10 guys on the roster for DL, and 6 of them are listed as DT, so how is it there’s no depth there? Kelly Gregg may be one guy, but currently we also have Powe, Toribio, Dion Gales, Lucas Patterson, and Brandon Blair.

The solution to everything can’t be “Go get big name free agents”. That’s pricey and often is just as much of a gamble as a draft pick.

Oh and you forgot to name the mascot too. You know most those guys you listed probably won’t even make the team. And IDK what the other things you were trying to talk about. Sounds like you are just trying to stir the pot to me. Or maybe Canada’s roommate? Cousin?

What was so confusing about that post. Made perfect sense to me.

You make it sound like we have just been sitting twiddling our thumbs this offseason. The fact is we have brought in a number of guys maybe not the big names you want but there have been guys brought in.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe there’s a reason outside of being cheap why they haven’t gone out and signed the bigger names. With the big name big money guys you most the time get big ego. With this seasons off season being so short maybe it’s best not to go after that big ego guys. In sports the team with the most talent doesn’t win the title most the time. It’s the team that has good talent that plays well together. That’s what we are going after.

Yes losing waters was a hit to the online. But from what I have read it was a mutual decision. Sometimes it’s just the best thing to walk away or let a guy go.

You clearly either dont watch football or dont understand what you are watching. I can no longer waste this time ridiculous criticism of the Chiefs that you fail to back up at every turn. Happy trolling!! :troll31:

To just bring in players, any player…..anybody can do. To bring in good talent to keep getting better is the tough thing. I guess my feeling is we will regress this year with the lack of bringing in that talent needed to improve. Just because a player is paid a lot of money doesn’t mean he will have a big ego either, if that is the case then we might have a few of our own. I will agree with you that not always does the best team talent wise win the Super Bowl, some luck is involved and getting some breaks are needed to make it there and to win it.

I felt like when Vermeil was here we did have teams that should have won it all. I felt like he was very close. He could take players that might have been a little better than average and turned them into all-pros in his system eg: Green. A little bit better defensive coaching and if Sims and Freeman would have panned out would have helped too. Draft picks are a crap shoot. Anyhow I am getting off of the subject now, but he built the team with a great system, pretty good free agent signings and a few good draft picks. He used all phases to build the team and just seemed to keep reloading and make us contenders much like he did with his previous teams he coached. Everyone was down on Vermeil because he didn’t bring us the ring but he got some bad breaks. Wish we would have stuck with him longer.
