MemberThose are nice catches guys. I caught that Bass 2 years ago and at the time it was a state record but since our water is private they wouldn’t allow me to put it in the record book. I don’t care but the record then was 7pounds 9 ounces. Since then it has gone up as some kid caught one outta the Des Moines river , it was on the channel 8 news. His still wasn’t as big as mine it was 8 pounds an some odd ounces. Would need to look it up. His was a black bass. Mine was just a hefty old female ready to burst with eggs.

I used to commercial fish on the beach (nets) the lady I worked for has a picture of her son holding up a 115 pounder!(net caught) That was in the 60’s though. they no longer allow the larger mesh nets.

Since they no longer allow that the fishing will return though as they lay thousands of eggs. Question though, are the Salmon in the river to spawn or is it their natural habitat?

Reds(sockeye) and kings both need lakes to spawn and the Kenai river has two lakes: Kenai Lake(head waters) and Skilak. they still allow net-commercial fishing just not with the large mesh nets

Net fishing is what I was refering to, when people do that kind of fishing for a prolonged time period the numbers of large fish drop over time. We do the net thing to get rid of the Carp in our lake as if we didn’t they would take over the population and we prefer to catch Bass and catfish, Walleye and perch. The lake I live on is a private community and the lake was engineered in 1956 from a creek called The Black Creek. Now it is called LBMC Creek and it runs into the lake , it has no rivers connected to it so we have to stock it with what we want to have in it. The DNR is not responsible for it , the corperation that maintenances our roads and lake manages the fish population as well. Salmon are very interesting in the fact that they start out hatching in a river and they go out to sea then return to the river they were born to lay eggs and spawn so their pecies can survive. Until you explained to me what you did I really didn’t know all of that so, thanks.:bananen_smilies046:
