All – I’ve been offline a long time, just had a few minutes down time and dropped by to check out serious chatter on the Chiefs. Then I see this thread. Looks like the site crapped out if a guy who knocks it 55+ yards on occassion is being picked out because his average is low (hmmm, could that be related to the number he drops inside the 20?) and is hurt for a few games.

Too bad – there used to be some intelligence here…

    :-)

Banning him is too conservative of a step. Liberals believe in free speech, even if people are saying what you don’t like.

Not that I’m saying I’m a liberal (or that I’m not), but I say let the conservative stay because liberals say he should….

timsatt – take a deep breath.

No one on this site has said “give poor people more”, but you keep yelling against it.

No one on this site has said “they are entitled to it”, but you keep yelling they aren’t.

No one on this site has said “raise taxes”, but you keep yelling we shouldn’t.

What everyone is trying to tell you in different ways, but you are not getting, is that you are wrong in saying being poor is a choice and people have it coming, so why should we help them.

Your parents worked hard and put you on a great path. This is OUTSTANDING. You obviously attribute a lot of credit to them for that.

I salute your parents and I think you are probably a good person with good intentions in life, in part because of their influence.

The question you need to ask, before you start yelling about liberals, is if you would be the same person you are today — drug free / pre-marital sex free / hard working / volunteering your time to make life better for others — would you really be the same?

The answer is no. You keep giving your parents the credit, so you have to admit they had a hand in it.

Now that you admit, where you end up has a lot to do with where you start (and there are exceptions, but the rule is the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree economically or morally), look at a child growing up in poverty, bad schools, smoking, sex, drugs and look at the influences they have.

It should make it a little bit harder to say “well they chose it”. If they “chose”, they obviously were influenced to choose it.

You are making both liberals & conservatives mad when you rant and rave about poor people.

How to fix it? We all differ — this is where liberals / conservatives / socialists really start to go their separate ways. Empathy and understanding, this appears to be where the rest of the site is uniting against you.

If you want to start a political debate, talk about welfare programs / school vouchers / universal head-start programs / etc., leave the “poor people bring it on themselves” out of it and you might get some intelligent discussion.

food water clothing and shelter …plus a loving family is all you need in life. Us Americans, yes me included, have trouble comprehending this. I know we feel like we need more than that. But you dont. People on minimum wage survive. No they dont live in the nicest places. But had they put more effort in school and throughout life, in most cases, they would probably be better off.

You have to earn your job and your wage. nothing should be handed to you. I wish they would quit teaching people that they need to rely on government in order to survive. But that is the way it is. So be it. Life was never meant to be perfect.

I try to stay away from political commentary in public, so I won’t weigh in on one side or the other, but minimum wage is hard. You can survive, but timsatt1, start doing the math. Assume you work 50 hrs a week @ minimum wage. Now assume you are married with 2 young kids (pre-school age).

Now look around in a big city and see where you can live. How much do you have left over for groceries / car / bills? Now — how much is left over for clothes / toys / books / etc. for the kids.

It doesn’t work. And guess what, you now live in a bad-education part of town (that’s what you could afford). So your kids won’t get a good education. But maybe you will spend hours with them a day supplementing? Nope – you are working more than one job if you make minimum wage and have a family. Looks like the kids will have a hard time “just doing better in school” as you said their parents should have done.

Poverty (and yes minimum wage for a family of 4 is poverty) breeds poverty. It is a viscous cycle.

Talk politics if you want. But don’t talk about things that you don’t know about and act like it’s not a big deal — people live it every day and it is a big deal, and there is no easy solution like “well, you should have just avoided it”.
