::chiefsrule;232780 wrote:I will use an example of what I mean by rose colored glasses fans. Brian Waters is still a very good lineman especially in the run blocking. He made the Pro Bowl. If he were still on the Chiefs team everyone would agree with that and speak of him highly. Now that he is gone these people say “he was washed up anyhow”, “the Pro Bowl is a popularity contest”. He is the very same player and person, nothing has changed there except he isn’t a Chief anymore. That is just looking at it as anything and everything Chiefs comes up roses, not looking at it realistically that Brian Waters is still a very good offensive lineman playing at a pro bowl level. No he isn’t as good as he used to be (which was one of the best in the game) but still better than a majority.
With the exception of Larry Johnson, I have seen that happen with everyone who has left or come to KC. We hate a guy until he has arrowheads on his helmet, and once a guy trades his Chiefs uniform for another one, we hate him. Sure, there may be different levels of hate, but you sure don’t care as much about a guy not here anymore.
My example is Tony Gonzalez. I don’t give two poops if that guy gets a super bowl ring- especially since he left KC because he didn’t think he could get one here. So, getting a ring was more important than staying in KC, so good riddance. Other people still love the guy and wish the best for him. I hope Atlanta goes 5-11 every year he’s there. I’m bitter about his leaving.
I think Brian Waters IS still a good lineman, but it wasn’t my decision to cut him, and I don’t know why we did. But… we did, so we move forward without him, and complaining about it isn’t going to help. I am intrigued by the fact that he’s not on another team yet.
::You must have missed that I said we play the much better NFC North- I’m not sure the Bears, Vikings, and certainly not the Packers will be easy.
But it will be that much more satisfying to beat as many of these teams as we can. You obviously think we’re in bigger trouble with these teams than I do.
You say your view is realistic- I think its pessimistic. You think everyone else wears rose colored glasses- I say they’re enthusiastic and have faith.
::Our schedule is mostly tougher this year NOT because of some cruel NFL scheduler, but more than likely because we are playing the NFC North, which has MUCH better teams than the horrible NFC West we played last year. We played Indy last year, we play them again this year.
We played Buffalo last year… and….
Wait for it……..
We play them again this year.
Obviously, we play some different matchups, some of which are definitely going to be tougher (Jets, NE, Pit), but I think we’re tougher than last year, too.
As I’ve said- we’ll see on the field, won’t we?
::chiefsrule;232647 wrote:Just pointing out the facts that we had an easy schedule and we don’t have that this year. I look at things realistically. No, you look at things through fear and dread. You don’t have confidence we’ll win many of those games, based on your previous posts and comments. I say we’re better this year, and that we’ve addressed some areas, and I think a lot of those are anyone’s game.
Por ejempelo, last time Pittsburgh came to Arrowhead, a team worse than the one we’ll field this year beat Big Ben and the Steelers. Maybe that means I wear rose colored glasses, but I’ve seen us triumph numerous times when we weren’t supposed to.
I’m not saying we’ll be 16-0 or 14-2, and we may end up tanking badly due to injury or whatever else, but just the same, we could end up smoking some of these guys. You have to play the game, and that’s why they do.
::I don’t regard him as a troll at all, but the tone becomes hard to stomach after a while. He made his point- we don’t sign glamorous, big dollar free agents, so that we can contend “now”.
He just doesn’t seem willing to see, accept, or even really read anyone else’s opinions on the matter, but just keeps pushing his own point as though it is immovable fact. Its not- there is no guarantee that signing Franklin, Ty Warren, or anyone else would have made us ‘contenders’ this year.
We are the AFC West champs, and we’re a dam good team. Until proven otherwise, we ARE contenders.

Blalock might not have been going anywhere though and not sure if he wanted to. And the argument of well other teams didn’t want these players I could say the same about players we picked in the draft or Gregg and Breaston. Those two players are about the same age as the players we are resigning so they most certainly could have been here several more years. I do think we could have contended THIS year with those players added but it is obvious to everyone that isn’t going to happen this year and we wait yet another year.So basically you just have no patience, and want a super bowl championship now now now out of expensive free agents.
Rather than building a great team that could have them for several years to come.
::Canada;231983 wrote:Are you kidding me? Did you not see the previous three seasons? We went 4-12, 2-14, back to 4-12. We did not have a core of guys to build around. New management came in (late) and spent the first season seeing what kind of talent there was on the team, then cleaning house. Now there is improvement (which to you seems only to be in numbers) from 2-14 to 4-12, but is that really improving? When Pioli and Haley truly had a full offseason to start implementing what they want to do, we went to 10-6 and won the AFC West. Not just better W/L Record but we had the #1 Rushing offense in the league (which has now improved with the addition of Le’Ron McClain) Cassel threw 27 TDs and 7INTS a vast improvement from his 16/16 the year before. Not to mention the huge upgrade over the back up QB with Stanzi and Palko competing for the #2 (and possibly the number one in the near future) Bowe had 14 TDs leading the league last season and we have upgraded by adding Breaston and Baldwin.Defensively Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith were replaced by Kelly Gregg…a big upgrade at NT. Perhaps the reason we did not sign the big name FA Aubrayo Franklin (admittedly, i really wanted him too) but perhaps the reason we did not sign him is because Pioli and Haley see the talent that they got in Powe who may very well be ready to take over the leadership of our Dline. The linebackers led by DJ have some depth and competition now with Brandon Silar getting signed. Add in Houston when and if he signs and we have a significant pass rush off the edges with him and Hali. Add in Berry, Lewis Flowers and Carr roaming the secondary and we will have a deadly defense.
Im sorry that you don’t see the improvement on this team but it is quite apparent to me that we are building a long term winner. I dont want us to be a team that spends all their money in one shot trying to win a SB only to go back to being a sub par team because you blew your wad on a bunch of high priced FAs and they didnt pan out. Complain all you want about the 5 year plan. Fact is, most of that has been Carl Peterson who is no longer the Chiefs GM. Pioli is the boss and he is building a winner the same way he helped do it in New England and we all know how that worked out. :chiefs:
chiefsrule;232006 wrote:That didn’t even really make sense so I can’t comment on it. Sorry. No, I would guess you couldn’t comment on it because you didn’t want to read through it all. Made perfect sense.
chiefsrule;232005 wrote:Fair enough we will just see how the season plays out, but if we fall back to 6-10 or 7-9 I think my assements are right. If we win the AFC west again then you will most certainly be correct. So if we go 10-6 and make the playoffs as a wild card, that’s not continuing to improve? We ONLY improve if we win the West again? If we make the playoffs even as a wildcard, I’m good. I want to see us win a playoff game again.
chiefsrule;232008 wrote:Gregg isn’t that much of an improvement over what we had and still don’t have the depth there that we did last year. We did improve at WR no doubt but then took a bit hit losing Waters. We cut Waters, who was no doubt a leader and a skilled OG, but we currently have 13 guys on the roster as O-line. We’ll only see as the season gets going whether cutting Waters was a “big hit”.
As far as Gregg, we now have 10 guys on the roster for DL, and 6 of them are listed as DT, so how is it there’s no depth there? Kelly Gregg may be one guy, but currently we also have Powe, Toribio, Dion Gales, Lucas Patterson, and Brandon Blair.
The solution to everything can’t be “Go get big name free agents”. That’s pricey and often is just as much of a gamble as a draft pick.
::chiefsrule;231914 wrote:This may be year three with Pioli but we have been rebuilding for about half a decade. You do realize the ridiculousness of your math here, right? Piloi has been re-building us for 3 years out of 5?
Say, that’s not too bad if we’ve only been rebuilding for a total of 5 years, and we’ve already won the division. And even better, we won it only 3 years into Pioli’s efforts.
Hard to call the Herm/CP era “Rebuilding”. Seemed more like a “Giving up” era.

::Seek;231749 wrote:Free agency is not over. I will be upset if this is our final team but I believe pioli will still find good value in free agencyAgreed. Too much worry so far, and I think you also have to factor in that some of the guys we have that were good will be great. Some of the guys we had that were promising will be good.
No time to panic.
::Seek;231486 wrote:In my opinion the miniumum cap is going to cause problems in the future. You will see teams having to cut ways or not resign key players in efforts to remain within the Maximum cap. This will probably hurt the Chiefs the most as many of the key players we will want to retain are drafted players with contracts ending about the same time.
We will have to make decisions like keeping Flowers over Carr. etc…
Keeping Flowers over Carr is a no-brainer.
::turner_robert;197337 wrote:I have been a chiefs fan for along time I have seen the ups and downs of this team I have represented this team for as long as I have lived in Kansas. I think that being a Chiefs fan gives us all the opportunity to express our point of views with one another. On this site after posting 1 forum and the response I had was good but there are some ignorant people on this site. For example one of the responses I got from some one was “your stupid” WTF does that have to do with the Chiefs if you think the Chiefs are a good team then your blind if you think the draft that we had this year was good your blind if you think that the draft we have had in the past 4 years was good you blind. The only players that we have drafted in the past 4 years that have made a difference is 2007 Dwayne Bowe 1 out of 7, 2008 Jamaal Charles 1 out of 12, 2009 Ryan Succop 1 out of 9, and 2010 TBA. So what does that mean? That means we have a 10.71% rate in the draft up until now so please go on this forum and tell me we have done good in our drafts. All three of these guys that I mentioned are not even Pro Bowl Material except Charles.
Its like this if it taste like piss and it smells like piss then guess what its PISS. If you dont have a good arguement and you are just writing to be writing do us all a favor and go some where else.
I recommend picking up a copy of Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. It’s awesome, and it will teach you how to interact with a group you are new to without immediately saying a number of them are ignorant, without knowing them.
As far as the drafts go- have a further look back and tell me how many times we’ve drafted starters in every round. Tell me any team that has.
I don’t know how good our current team is, and neither do you.
